Amber reflectors required?

I have clear side markers and headlamps with amberectomy on my MY00 Cab. In researching clear lenses for a 325i I came across this Federal regulation:

FMVSS 108 [FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARDS]

Revised as of October 1, 1999

Reflex reflectors:

On the rear--1 red on each side of the vertical centerline, at the same height, and as far apart as practicable.

On each side--1 red as far to the rear as practicable, and 1amber as far to the front as practicable.

Does this mean we are required to have amber reflectors on the sides of the Porsches? Are the clear ones not to code? I do have the amber bulbs.

If your car is equipped with clear lenses, amber bulbs suffice.

After the sale, equipment requirements are determined by, typically, your state authority. For Delaware, you need to look at the Delaware Code Title 21, Chapter 43, § 4339 (a) "Front clearance lamps and those marker lamps and reflectors mounted on the front or on the side near the front of a vehicle shall display or reflect an amber color. "

So as long as the light emitted is yellow your fine. At least in Delaware.

I'd say that males good sense. If that wasn't the case all cops could afford to cruse around in helicopters with all the added revenue.

Shall "DISPLAY" or "REFLECT"...

Here in WA if the bulbs are not on, DISPLAY, they must be REFLECTIVE.

On my '01 C4 wiring the tail/street/parking/marker into the DRL circuit (as in Canada) solved the problem of the marker not being reflective.

wwest, so basically switching on the lights when I drive the car achieves the purpose of having the side marker on. I have the headlamp hack but no DRL.

In reading the Delaware reg I found that 2 red reflectors are required in the rear, there is no mention of a requirement for amber reflectors in the front or side marker lamps for passenger cars. They're required on buses, tractors, trucks, etc.
