Hello all,

I am new to this forum so applogize for any repeated questions on this subject. I have a 2000 996 C2 Cab that I purchased and required to obtain the radio code for the stereo. I was able to get this and put the code in, but no sound. So I checked the front trunk and found out that that stock AMP was removed and the wires had been cut. I assume that a custom amp had been installed inplace of the stock amp.

I am looking for a low cost approach to get the stereo working again, and wanted to find out where I could find a 2000 996 stock AMP that I could purchase along with the connector to rewire to the exisiting cut wires?

Or, should I just look for a custom amp and kit to connect up to the factory wires?

Thanks for your assistance!

Hi,

I think there are only two models a Nokia and one Harman model. I would say your best bet would be to look on eBay. They are on there all of the time and usually pretty cheap. Just look for the one that is compatable with your head unit. Looks like you may also need a wiring harness as well, if it is cut....Unless you have the connector, and then you can just splice tham back.

Good luck to you...

Thanks again for the help! I'll check on ebay and see what I can find.

I have a HAES amp from my MY99 C2, it shows 996 coupe M490 and the porsche part number is 996-645-311-00. By the time I disconnect it it was working fine. Replaced the sound system on my car with after market head unit, amp and speakers. However, can't find the connector.

Many POrsche fans replace the factory sound system for a better quality after market. Also, dont know if the MY2000 has the MOST system which would make a difference.

I would go with an after market sound system. I used the existing wiring.

Does the factory sound system's quality not up to par? It seems I am seeing a pattern in the searches I have performed on renntech that have shown most covert over to a aftermarket system.

I am sorry for the novice questions, but just came from owning a NSX and now a P-CAR, which I love to drive, but need some tunes guys!

Thanks again, I'll look at some aftermarket options, and appreciate the feedback.

I was not happy with the original equipment sound quality, and you are correct when you say you see a pattern. My complaint was, basically, with the bass. I installed a Bazooka ans I'm very happy. Other owners have done different things to improve the sound system on their cars. For the front speakers I have 4" MBQuartz and for the door speakers I have Polk's 5", the amp is a Holliwood Sound Labs. and the receiver is Pioneers, reads MP3s, with USB port and a Pioneers 12 cd CHANGER. Guess I can drive all the way from Miami to San Francisco without stopping the music.LOL.
