hello I have a 99 boxster with an 210 cdr unit. When the key is in the ACC position the radio works fine, but when I start the car and drive it does not work. I replace the key switch already and this still did not help the problem. Im sure there are some porsche savy people who can give me some direction. I also did check if it was a fuse issue and the fuse is good. The only thing I could think of is that the radio is wired where it accepts direct current when the key is in the ACC position for the memory, like a yellow wire on common car stereos. That would mean the direct current or red wire is not powering the unit. If anyone can shed some light on this situation I would really appreciate it, it has been over 4 yrs with this problem and I refuse to take it to the dealer and get hosed with some ridiculous amount for hourly labor.

Does the radio lose it's memory for station presets? It could be that your loosing the ground path when something else is running. Are there no independant gagares in your area that could look at it? It's amazing that you could put up with this fault for four years.

wvicary has a good point.

It's not the radio, but you never know?

get a multi - 12v meter / remove the radio / measure both CONST/SWITCH power wires with the ignition on ACC + RUN position.

that should determine

Did you ever get it figured out? I had the same problem but when it started for me, Winter was coming on when I would start the car the radio would not come on for about 10 min, then when I was almost home the radio would come on. Now it just come on in the ACC position.

The most common fault is the ignition switch, try turning the key slightly to see if the problem corrects itself.

its not the ignition switch this was changed out already and the problem continued. I think it might just be a faulty ground but no sure. Remember the radio first started to turn off and on for awhile, this continued untill it just wend off when the car was running, and only stays on with the acc on the switch. I know that the switchs have problems but why when the switch was replace it still did not work???
