The seat cushion on the drivers seat of my 996 seems a little flat. I was thinking about replacing it. Has anyone here attempted this?

Cheers,

Stan

There are plastic and metal clips that hold cushion on the seat frame (depending on model year).

The metal ones can likely be reused but the plastic ones will likely break in removal.

Hi Loren,

Thanks for the quick reply.

Model year is '02. Is this a DIY job? Would you happen to have the part # of the seat cushion? My seats are supple leather with heat (if that makes a difference).

Cheers,

Stan

Probably not too hard a DIY. Just remember to keep the key out of the ignition (even in off position) as the key will activate the airbag circuit and give you a fault light when you remove the seat.

I´ve done it once (I made a "Porsche Office chair" for me).

As far as I remeber, there were no big issues - no broken plastic tabs etc. However it took me some time and effort to adjust the whole thing.

BTW, an upholstery shop will, quite sure, be able to add some padding, even without removing the whole thing.

Good luck, Kare

Check out Dennisvogel.com and look at his section on adding heated seats to his boxster. It has details and pictures on replacing the seat cushions. I used it to put heated seats in my Cab whcih included both the bottom and back cushions. The bottom can be done without the hogs clip/pliers, the backs require these. Great instructions and an easy DIY. Too bad I did this a couple of years ago, and finally threw away the old cushions when I moved.

Thanks for all the helpful replies. The msrp is way more reasonable than I would have thought. I'll check with suncoast and see what there discounted price is.

Cheers,

Stan
