Are these leaks spark plug tube seals or cam cover? I think tube seals however wanted the board's opinion before ordering the parts.

If it's the tube seals, should both tubes and seals be replaced? '00 S, and they have not been replaced before. Thanx !

It appears as though it is the tubes. Order 6 tubes and there are 12 seals. Also get the proper tool for removal. I hear you can use a screwdrive end but it didn't work for me.

Thank you, Seafeye - changing the tubes and seals doesn't seem too difficult. Oil is all along the bottom of the cam cover and hopefully it's not the cover as well.

However, one prob at a time - again, thanks!

BTW, concur with what most people here probably knows - board sponsor Sunset has awesome service and prices!

Chas:

There is a clear photo of a cam cover and all the related parts and possible sources of leaks at this link: http://mike.focke.googlepages.com/camcoverleaks

It might give you a better idea of where everything is situated and where your leak is originating, although from your photo, it does look like it's coming from the spark plug tubes.

Regards, Maurice.

Excellent, thank you Maurice - the engine cutaway, and particularly the pic of the engine is very helpful to distinguish between tube and cam cover leaks. Very good briefing in layman's perspective - perfect for me!

And xflyboyx, you're right, very ingenious tool for extracting the tubes. Clever, just crazy good - Thank you!

Messy job, and can't wait to get started .... but I'm sure that makes sense to everyone here!

Appreciate the help!

Guys; I'm facing the same spark plug tube oil leakage. I have all parts ready for the repair, but anybody can confirm what degreaser I can use to spray on the oil and clean the mess on the engine aluminum block?

Thanks!

Thierry

Clean it after you are done. Most use a citrus based degreaser.
