From the link you posted there is no item 3 for a vertical DVD device, item 3 is the support bracket. Item 2 is the DVD device and the numbers are the same as my last post. Not sure why you are getting confused on this. If you fit the DVD device listed in the PET catalogue for the 997 there is no suggestion it can be fitted in any orientation other than horizontal. The only places i have seen a vertical mounted DVD device are on the 997 T and Gt3 PET pages. If you are intending to go and buy a new DVD device, your local porsche agent will be able to get the correct parts for your vehicle. If you are trying to source parts from e bay, then you either need to buy a new vertical drive or just accept that the part listed for your vehicle is horizontal mount.

Your chassis number (also call VIN - Vehicle Identification Number) in the windscreen will read something along the lines of WPOZZZ99Z5S700125 if you compare this to the numbers under the NAME column for the part you will see these read something like F 995S750849 >> 996S751980 , so you forget about the WPOZZZ part of the chassis number and the next Z letter (this is a dummy) , concentrate on the last section. The prefix F next to the chassis number means FROM chassis number and the >> means UP TO. A chassis number starting WPOZZZ99Z5S is a 2005 model year car whereas a chassis number starting WPOZZZ99Z7S is a 2007 model year car. If you look at the end of the catalogue under the V pages there is a description on decoding the chassis number.

Really there is not a lot of point discussing this further, you need to decide if you are going to fit horizontally the cayenne unit you purchased or buy a retro fit kit for the vertical orientation. You may want to look at the 997T and GT3 sections of the parts listing for more information on the vertical mount part numbers.

Specific vertical mount DVD drives are not listed under the 997 parts listing which covers all 997 models including the 4WD and cabriolet.

Berty, there's a second diagram of components in the link that does list the vertical drive that you're missing. It's after the diagram and subsequent detail that shows only the horizontal drive. 911-01 on page 423 of the PDF as opposed to the 911-00 on page 419 you're looking at.

Ah yes, sorry about that I can now see where you are looking at. The part number 997 642 139 02 is for the earlier chassis numbers and the 997 642 159 00 is for the later ones. Check your chassis number against the details , this should steer you in the right direction. If you are intent no an OEM look then you will need a vertical mount unit appropriate to the PCM and chassis number of your car. Otherwise I think the horizontal unit from the cayenned will wor if you can fix it horizontally.

I am going to go ahead and pick up the Vertical 997 642 159 01 unit from Suncoast and I have now listed the horizontal one for sale here on RENNTECH: LINK .

One final comment, from my VIN, I determined the chassis code is 998S732132 but I haven't been able to find any PETs that list a code in the description that starts with 998 (they're all either 996 or 997 so MY06 or MY07)...I'm going to assume this is because the three I'm looking at (Porsche.com, AutoAtlanta.com, and the actual PET program I received) are all outdated...Is this a correct assumption?

All the TSBs we have here are as current as what Porsche gives dealers/OPCs. We get them at the same time they do.

Sometimes it takes Porsche a few months to update them.

Loren, my apologies, you are completely correct. I was confusing the (outdated) printed instructions that were included with my purchase with what was available here. Membership definitely has its benefits :renntech: :)
