Can someone tell me what are the exact differences in detail, here is what I know/have heard:

Strenthenged Transmission (not sure what that really means)

Same Exhaust, Intercoolers, and Turbos as GT2

Modified ECU

to my knowledge the transmission is the same in the regular 996tt and the x50

the turbos are larger in the x50....k24's rather then k16's

the GT2 in intercoolers are slightly larger then regular 996tt ICs.

the tuning in the ECU is different due to different hardware (ie different turbos, etc)

From the 2001 Technical Information Book

"The following components/systems used in the 911 GT2 have been modified, compared to the 911 Turbo (996):

- Exhaust-gas turbochargers

- Exhaust system

- Charge-air intercoolers

- DME control unit ME 7.8 (data record)

- Intake air system

- Overrun air recirculation valves

- Fuel tank"

Loren, are you saying that the GT2 above is the same as the X50?

Here is what I have been seeing in everything I have read:

Porsche engineers achieved the increase in power and performance through modifications to the Turbo charger, the change air cooler, the control units and exhaust system in particular. The base constructions of the manual and automatic transmissions were also improved so that the power increase can also be ordered for the 911 Turbo Tiptronic at the recommended price of 12,644 Euro (price in Germany, inclusive of VAT). Its maximum speed has increased from 298 to 300 km/h with a reduction in the acceleration speed by almost a half a second to 4.5 seconds for 0 to 100 km/h.

Yes, the parts are the same parts.

But remember the GT2 is 2WD whereas the Turbo (even with X50) is 4WD - so there is a large weight factor too.

Does anybody know exactly what this means (I have an X50, Manual, hence my intrique). I have some Porsche documentation that makes the same comment.

The base constructions of the manual and automatic transmissions were also improved

Thanks. Alex

OK...AFAIK:

X50 has K24 turbos, GT2 ICs, programming to match the K24s, GT3 oil pump. The exhaust is identical to the standard turbo (although they come with twins tips, an option for the standard TT). The tranny is also identical (I know there is published material contrary to this, but the PN's are the same and folks who have taken them apart saw no reinforced tranny).

So for initial sticker price of $17,000 you got ICs, K24s and programming...
