My wife and I have just committed to purchase our first ever Porsche, a glorious Midnight Blue Metallic 92 Cabriolet.

We are having the car PPI'd up in New York State, where it is located, and will drive it down to our home on Feb. 28.

Looking for the name of a really reputable, honest Porsche shop in the DC area (MD side, where we live, or VA side, where I work). I hope this is the right forum to ask such a question -- I found one other forum that might fit, but it is closed. Thanks very much, please feel free to respond on this thread or to communicate offline at kraussmichaeli@gmail.com

The best P-car mechanic I've ever found, and I've had them in Germany and the DC area, is Taylor Chapman. He has a shop down off Backlick Rd. It's a bit out of the way for me as I live in Falls Church and work in Reston, but I'll never take my car to any other person. I've had my car at just about every shop (dealer or independent) in the area, and Taylor is head and shoulders above the rest in his knowledge, honesty, fairness, and general niceness.

He's an incredibly nice guy, and he knows more about making the most out of a Porsche than anyone I've ever met. I feel good about recommending him to anyone looking for a person to work on their car. In my opinion, you won't find anyone better.

He's at:

German Auto Group

7520 Backlick Rd.

Springfield, VA 22150

Phone: 703.440.6777

Michael, thanks so much for this ringing endorsement.

It's way out of our way too (I live in Potomac and work in North Arlington), but in the absence of other recommendations, I think I will give him a try.

Thanks again,

Michael

PS Here's a pic of our C4 (we pick it up in NY this coming weekend!)

Did you try German Auto Group and would you recomend them?

Yes, I did, eventually. For routine annual service I decided to go closer by, to Curry's Auto Service in Falls Church, which did my annual service. But the a/c stopped working, and I decided to have German Auto check it out. It took two trips there, but my 964 finally did get diagnosed and a price provided for replacement of the servos. Others have told me the price was quite reasonable. I've decided not to have that work done yet (we don't use the A/C much in our convertible) but I'm very satisfied with German Auto Group and will use them for major work.

you could try AT Speed in Columbia, MD. I was just there for a fantastic porsche show this past weekend. Great show and very impressive facility. Hand tools only there. Good stuff.
