I have a 3.4 converted Boxster, and i recently measured the throttle body as I was cleaning it. It's my understanding that the 3.4 should have a 3.5" diameter intake and throttle body. Does this look right to you guys for a 996 3.4 motor? Thanks Everyone

It isn't a 3.5" intake it is a 3.5" MAF housing.

If I remember correctly, you can't tell the difference between the boxster and 996 throttle body with that measurement. They are both the same at the top side, the difference is the Boxster one tapers down at the butterfly.

Thanks Todd. So what should I be looking for as an indicator that I have the correct throttle body?

Todd,

I just measured the throttle body that I received with my swap and it is the same on the outside and then tapers down at the butterfly to around 2 inches I would say. I measured quick after reading this post. Does this mean that LA Porsche sent me a boxster throttle body? Sorry to hijack the thread.

Top one is a 996 TB, bottom is 986. The 986 part has a 986 stamping on the side. I'm certain the 996 one has a 996 stamping

SOB I just looked at the throttle body that they sent me...... Grrrr... They "LA Porsche" sent me a 986 TB it says it on the side. I am going to email them right now. I don't think that they did it on purpose. hopefully they will just send me a 3.4 non egas tb with no issues. I'm glad I caught this thread.
