I took delivery of a 2003 Boxster a few days ago. This is my first Porsche and she's absolutely beautiful. Hopefully I can get some pics up here. It's been raining non stop in the Baltimore area up until today.

The car only came with one key. The problem is the remote head is jacked up. The circuit board and button work fine, but the outer cover is messed up. Is it possible to purchse just the top cover for the remote and if so where?

The car has the upgraded sound with the door panel speakers. The left side dash speaker does not work. What woul dbe a good place to start troubleshooting?

Thanks for any help!

Congrats on your new ride!

I checked Suncoast Porsche and they appear to have what you need as far as a new key parts.

Click here for the link to the Boxter key page.

Sorry I can't help with the speaker. I'll let the experts help you with that.

If the left door panel isn't working either, I'd check your balance on the radio. Otherwise, you may have a channel out on the amplifier located in the trunk. Since the car is new to you, you also might want to check the obvious to see if there is an actual speaker with wires connected to it.

I ordered the same part a few weeks ago from Sunset Imports listed at the top of this page. It was less expensive than Suncoast. So far they have had the best pricing on any accessories, mod parts and maint. items that I have ordered. Jeff is also very knowledgeable and very responsive.

Drem, I like Sunset too and have ordered from them often. THe problem is waiting a whole week to get a part because of my being in Delaware. Suncoast can get things to me faster from Florida.

I thought that might be the case. I'm on the west coast so things get here a bit sooner.

Thanks for all the responses guys! I really appreciate the info! From the time I have spent scouring various forums it has been a pleasure seeing how welcoming the Porsche crowd can be.

I actually mistyped my speaker issue. It is the right side speaker that is not working. I did already check that balance and that is not it. The right side door kicker is working. I am going to pull the grill over the weekend and check to make sure it is plugged in. My fear is exactly what you stated: that it may be the amp.

I'm having a blast learing all of the little in's and out's of this car. Today was the first time driving her on dry pavement. All I can say is WOW! I came from a 2006 MINI Cooper S that handles like a dream. That is until I experienced this wonderful piece of machinery. I can see that this is going to be a very lasting relationship.

One thing I noticed today is that every single lug bolt is rusted. Is this normal? Are there suitable replacements that fair better that the stock ones?

Let's see if I can post a couple of pics that I snapped outside of work today. I can't wait for the weather to break so I can put a fresh coat of wax on her!

all my lugs had rust too, some more than others. This is 'normal.' Replacements are easily found through aftermarket sources however.

Be sure when you or someone else jacks up your car that it is done right or it will mess up your Boxster.

Congrats on your new Boxster!

Great pictures of your car yes.gif Looks very sharp.

RE car cleaning/waxing products there is a good thread on that too, including products for the top and the plastic window if you have one. Check it out:

You can download a PDF owner's manual from the Documents section. It's much easier than leafing through the paper one:

Looks like I should scour my owners manual for the proper jacking points. Thanks for the advice! Any suggestion on a vendor for lug replacements? I'm shocked that a car built this well would come with such shoddy lug bolts.

No need to buy new lug bolts, you can easily repaint the bolts (heads) with a can of zinc paint spray, remove 3 bolts at each wheel, paint them and let dry, put the bolts in place ( check the proper torque ), remove the remaining bolts and do as the previous ones, the wheels can stay on the car if you do it that way.

Page 206 PDF manual: Tightening torque= 130 Nm.

Page 208 shows the jacking points.

Should be the same pages on the paper manual.

It's a good idea to check ALL your lug nuts for proper torque. If you should have a puncture you may not be able to loosen the nuts with the wrench at all. You can even carry the torque wrench in the trunk since the stock wrench is never very good anyway.

As far the lug bolts I have to wonder how well they would hold up to being reinstalled after being painted. Wouldn't the lug wrench just mar up the painted surface?

I am planning on breaking them all loose this weekend and applying anti sieze. I'll then be sure to get them all to the proper torque. I know all about these wonderful shops and their over powed air ratchets. If I had a nickle for every warped rotor a tire change cost me in my younger days.... I'll also be sure that the tires are properly inflated. Sunday is supposed to be clear out. it's goingto be cold but I'd like to start getting a few things taken care of.

Unfortunately the car has a mounted front tag bracket. I'd like to apply a Euro style tag to the front of the car. Anyone have a suggestion on a good source for that sort of thing? I have bought them in the past when I was driving Fiats, but the quality of the tag and the brackets were sorely lacking.

As U mentioned, pull the grill/speakers out.

I would prolly swap the speakers,,, could be a blown speaker.
