the same problem like the others had came into my car a few days ago. Firts I thought that the problems came from the fact that the service that I used didnt do what they were supposed to do when they have replaced the front wheel bearings(both of them). asked and got support from Loren, thanks again for that. So, I took the car to the service and noticed that what they have done was good, so the problem wasnt there. the vibrations are coming under hard acceleration also with a noise, so I thought that the problem was the front driveshafts, but like I said the problem isnt there.

the funniest part:

by the time I was there, they showed me a Touareg V6 TDI, this is 2.5 liter turbodiesel engine (174 hp) !!! with a manual gear box, and that one had the same problem, and the solution that had fixed that car was to REPLACE the drive shaft. Ok, I said, but what this had to do with me. and they showed me that the drive shaft IS THE SAME on both cars. I have a MY04 PCS. Now. I know that they are the similar, but how come they use the same DRIVESHAFT? doenst the specs on the PCS should have been different, if you consider that the power differences are BIG?

Another funny thing is that there isnt ANY replacement for JUST the Carrier Bearing. Cause as far as I have seen this is the one that is damaged - the rubber that is made of gets craked and so it cant do what is to supposed to do. You need to get the full size cardan(drive shaft). I do normally keep cars longer than the others, and love to mantain them in the best shape, and as you know these bearings are like other parts that from time to time needs to be changed, but with what Porsche & VW is offering you will just need to get the complete driveshaft everytime. yes, I know it maybe needs to be re balanced, and there are some shops that are specialised in that, like you know but NO Carrier Bearings for sale?

my questions are:

1. are there any differences between the newer ones? I mean does the 2009 PCTTS use the same one?

2. whats the code for the latest one released for my car.

3. does anyone know of any aftermarket carrier bearings? maybe wit a better design?

4. is it still the same one on newer Touareg models? cause the Touareg parts are cheaper :)

5. are there any aftermarket driveshafts available for these cars.

I see that there isnt any interest in this at all, hope you dont need to change it like I have to do.

anyway I have contact PST, and I will provide them with pictures and maybe I will have a driveshaft from them- a prototype, and I'm thinking about at a 2 piece or maybe one piece driveshaft, will see about that.

I'm curious to find out what type of material they will choose to make this, as I'm considering to get a Chromoly Driveshaft or a Carbon Fiber Driveshaft for my car. If this will be done by them, I think it will be hudge achievement to our cars, since this will fit any model of Cayenne.

thanks for the info. I'm allready in contact with PST, so I will follow this route right now. I have seen their products, and many peoples from other platform are using it with reported succes, and also better timeslips. dont know if they will be able to make me a lighter one, since its an SUV and not a sport car, but who knows.

I do have some questions, so please if anyone know the answer please write:

in my PET file which has the 2006 update, I have found that there are 2 codes for the driveshaft itself:

- 955 421 020 20 - cardan shaft 1246mm 03

- 955 421 020 21 - cardan shaft 1246mm -04

- which one is the one for the S model? - I do believe that both fits but which one I should choose if I had to order one since there aren't any TSB for this failure.

- is there any difference in codes for newer models? or they share the same shafts?

- and the last one: in the picture there isnt showed the picture of the Carrier Bearing that is dammaged? it isnt even on the shaft.

MY 03 shafts were bad, 04 they were improved/fixed, but some 03's in the system still got into 04's

thanks for clearing that. could you tell me if there is any difference between the Turbo shaft and NA one? also, does the newer models, 957 have different shafts?

as for me I hope that I can get a lighter version from PST, so that I will have less rotating mass :). waiting...

It was indeed the driveshaft, the technician was nice enough to take me in and show me that the older (original 2004) driveshaft was poorly engineered. He went on to say that the part number no longer existed and has been replaced with a new part number of an new and improved driveshaft, the same as what is on newer model Cayennes. Good luck!

too many problems with the MY04. since I own it I had replaced too many parts, and still needs newer ones, on a 80.000km car. thats just sick. and yes I know, some might say that it was better if the previous owner had been took the car to the dealer, and get all the updates some of them for free. if he didnt you will end up paying like me, and thats the best lesson you can learn off.

Just happened to my early 2005 Turbo, 66K miles

My mechanic replaced just the bearing in the back and then something in my drive shaft failed after 20 miles. (see pict of my bearing)

We are working out a deal since I now am getting a new drive shaft.

I wanted the Vertex drive shaft but he talked me out of it

a) No longer elligle for the core credit since he took it apart fixing the bearing

B) Mechanic thinks a new driveshift from Porsche is worth the extra $200 it will cost me, verses a rebuilt Vertex

This is costing me $1500+ and my car is still a baby with low miles. I read about this problem everyone now on the fourms.

My question - where is the class action law suit against Porsche or the recall?
