Traded in my 02 targa for a 05 cayenne turbo with 24k on it last night. Sorry to see the targa go but after I got hit on Halloween night by a drunk  it was never going to be the same again. So far I love the cayenne but I have a few questions.

Can the NAV be updated ? I have the separate DVD under the passenger seat and the unit did not come with a DVD from the NAV. A friend of mine had an older nav disk from his 04 that seemed to work but I would like to get a new(er) disk if possible.

Also the dealer only had 1 key with the cayenne. Any idea on the cost of a second key? I see a lot of blanks on eBay but I know they need to be coded to the car once cut. What is the most cost effective way of getting an additional key?

Thanks for any input you have on either.

Hi Mauck1,

Congratulations on your new car!

Regarding the navigation: be careful using a 2004 DVD in your 2005 system. They introduced a new software version in may 2005 and if you use the old DVD in the new system, you will get errors and could potentially ruin the system. You wrote that it worked, so probably you have the 'old' version.

Regarding upgrading... yes this can be done, but you have to upgrade from level A to C! This needs some software which can be bought.

Good luck.

I recently bought a 2005 CTT too. They are great!

Mine used the 2004 DVD too. I do believe that all of the TSBs are here in RennTech. I would recommend that you become member and you will be able to get all the info about upgrades etc.

With regard to the key, I would try to negotiate with the dealer for the second key. Some dealers (like mine) did the second key for free, but some charge hundreds of dollars to cut and reporgram. Actually, cutting the key is the easy part, but only a Porsche dealer can program the key. Good Luck!

On the lighter side... if you manage to hose the NAV system, you can buy an entirely new one for the cost of a single year's update CD :)

mauck1,

i recently bought a Cayenne Turbo 2005 Build 10/05. It came with a DVD under drivers seat (passanger seat for USA and Euro), and it had the 2004 maps and workd great. the Nav can be upgraded, my Dealer quoted around $400 AUD for mine to be upgraded to the latest 2007 maps.

as for the remote, i got one replaced under warranty and i saw the bill, costed $450 AUD for it ....Ouch! for a remote, come on.

anyway, hope this helps.

The 2004 Cayennes used a CD-based nav system, not a DVD-based nav system. The CD-based system loads into a CD slot on in the dash - there's nothing under the seat (just an empty drawer). I'm not sure if the DVD system will read the data from the CD - it sounds like it might, but I'd try to find the newest DVD maps and software and install those. They should be readily available at the dealer.

The DVD and CD Navigation systems are in no way interchangeable/swappable. Each requires a different hardware spec. To move from one to the other requires hardware.

Either A. buy the new DVDs, B. buy a used set on ebay, or C. replace your Nav system. Garmin/Tomtom make good enough temporary solutions, and can migrate between vehicles. I'm still working on a custom double-din solution myself; if I can get it to talk to the MOST system i'll update and post a worklog. It works great... in a Saturn test car.
