So here's the situation I'm looking at... I have found that I can get a much better deal if I buy an out-of-state car; I'm in California, which is of course notorious for it's smog standards.

Does anyone know how hard it is to get an out-of-CA vehicle smogged in CA? (2000 boxster 2.7)

A specific question is in regards to an 'S' exhaust on a regular 2000 boxster: will this throw things off right off the bat with regards to the visual part of the smog inspection?

thanks in advance.

The key is to find a shop that skips the visual if you've messed around with it. If you feel frisky anyone will do as long as it sniffs clean. Headers shouldn't change that.

Most smog shops don't know what to make of a Boxster or where to find the motor.

On that note it took some work for me to find a shop willing to SMOG a Boxster. Most of them didn't have the proper equipment and most of the remainder were clueless about accessing the engine. Once I found the right shop mine passed with flying colors. My Box' was originally from Colorado. As far as I know nothing was done to it to get it to pass CA smog.

You shouldn't have a problem if the vehicle smog related equipment is all stock. If the exhaust has been modified and the technician performing the test is familiar with Boxsters it may not pass the visual inspection.

As a follow up for those that may have the same question in the future, it did indeed pass with flying colors in CA. No issues at all at the DMV visual inspection or the actual smog check.

Thanks everyone for the sound info.
