I have a MY99 996. The check engine light came on for my bank 2 cam sensor. I have the new sensor here but cant find the sensor on the engine. I saw a pic of the driver side (bank 1) sensor but not the passenger side. is this the spot? it is the back of the head, closest to the bumper. Thanks in advance everyone!

The sensor as showed in you picture is located on the camshafts, the opposite side of the timing chains. Bank1/near the water pump, Bank2/near the gearbox.

Hey RFM thanks for the reply!

The picture in this thread is the US passenger side, water pump side of the motor, looking up from the bottom then a shot from above. In my other thread it shows the tranny side of the same head and you said it is incorrect, and it should be on the water pump side. Which one is it?

It is bank 2 which I know is the passenger side on the US car. I can not see any sensors on the tranny side of the head. I saw the picture of the Bank 1 sensor in the other thread which is on the tranny side so I thought the bank 2 sensor would be on the water pump side. This is soooooo confusing! Is the sensor under that coolant hose in the 2nd picture?

thanks again for the help!

As mentioned elsewhere generation 1 heads and timing management US and ROW are different, take a look between the water hoses, under the airco compressor ( pic 2=banc2 ) if you can find the sensor, he should be there.
