looks like Porsche has had enough engine failures and chosen to follow new 997.2 engine modifications and apply them to the Cayman S 3.4 !!

this should be one quick car... but I think they kept the gear ratio slightly taller than the 997..... in PDK apparently its a rocket!!

lets see how good this engine is or if another "new" engine brings "new" problems !!

fingers crossed.

Is the new 2.9 and 3.4 now without intermediate shaft as per the 997 gen2 ? I thought the 3.4 was the same design just having DFI and new heads , is this not the case ? Information seems to be limited on what the face lifted cars motor is actually designed around.

I have heard in May 08 that all regular M96 engines are replaced by MA engines, but it was still in 08, times are different now. I check it out when i visit the after sales dept. next spring.

no M96 engines are 996 engines.. M97 engines are 997 motors and they still have the "shaft"... (although built better... but still with the same possible failure points)

No :) They do not have an intermediate shaft. They utilize two chains off the front of the crank and run two cams per chain. One going to the right bank and the other going to the left bank.

(from the factory book released to Porsche techs before the cars starting shipping)
