60K service

A few questions....

my 04 CS has just over 60K miles, I need to take it in this week for new brake pads (rear I believe, since they are the original, but were replaced due to warranty at 7K), also for an oil change.

Dealer is quoting $1,900 for the 60K service (includes oil change), says it's a 8 hour job as well (thus the price).

Seems a bit outrageous, even for a Porsche. Is this necessary? can I go to a private shop that works on Porsche's to save some cash?

I also have an extended warranty thru the dealer, which has the assumption that I keep a clean service record, so does going outside of the dealer to do this cause an issue?

Yes, just keep your service records.

Even doing the work yourself should not void your warranty as long as it is done correctly and documented.

Thanks Loren, is their a typical cost people have paid for the 60K? Private or Dealer? the 1,900 seems over the top for changing spark plugs, oil change and checking belts, etc.

I agree with Loren. You could do it yourself. Or have a good Indie mechanic do it. They should be about half the cost of the "Stealer" :angry: and probably do a better job.

My wonderful dealer (I wont mention an name but it's RUSNAK :D ) charges $225 for an oil change where an indie charges $125. Same oil, same filter, same labor.......

thanks Phillip, that's what I was thinking, there are actually two shops that work on Porsche's near my home, I'm going to check with them. I was looking at near 3K for back brakes (rotors and all), the 60K and the oil change, it's a bit much.

I have a really good relationship with my mechanic. When it comes to brakes I buy all the parts online (all Porsche OEM) and he intalls them and just charges me labor. Saves a lot of money.

Good luck. There is no need to pay the dealer when you don't have to!
