Hello Guys, i´m new to the Forum, i´m from Germany and here´s my first question :)

My DVD Navigation doesn´t work any more, not the Pcm 2.1 unit, only the DVD Navi upper the cd changer doesn´t work

(no navigation disk reading)

My car is a 2006 Carrera S 997

I wants to buy a new one from ebay, but in the porsche parts katalogue are more than 10 different part numbers for this little navi. Anybody know why? i thought all dvd navis are the same??

My Question also, if i buy from ebay, is it possible to read with piwis the serial no of this dvd navi, if it´s not legal??

Any technical guys here who could help me.

I think you are on the wrong forum section but to answer your question:

Why buying a new unit if you are not sure what the problem is, could be a bad disc or an electrical problem, go to the dealer to read out the fault codes first. At the same time you are there, since the car is MY 06, ask for the warranty ( 2 years ) or at least a commercial intervention. That is the cheapest way to go IMHO.

There are 10 different part no. for the same DVD navi, anyone know if they all fit my car or not? I think that´s all only because of the serial no. and every navi will fit my car or am i wrong?

Daniel,

I suggest you first look at the part catalogue based on the chassis number of your car. I think you will find that the list of 10 possibilites will reduce to about 2. One option will be for 4WD vehicles and the Turbo /GT3 , the other will be for 2WD cars and be identical to those used in the Boxster / Cayman and also possibly the Cayenne. Make sure you get the correct part number exactly , the last digit can make all the difference. The DVD drive is hardware matched to the PCM so an older genration will certainly not work with your car.

there are some other possibilities as well instead buying a new unit, like getting a new DVD DRIVE LASER LENS, or assembly, but before you get a new unit or whatever you will get, take that unit to a local Becker service (there are some in Germany), and maybe they can fix it cheaper and without so much trouble. what kind of DVD have you used? did you tried with the original one, from Porsche? cause, if not, the copy ones, can give you trouble, you need to write them at very low speed, otherwise you will get the measage that you get right now.

do you have a PIWIS there? I've seen that you asked if with the PIWIS someone can clear the serials of the unit that you get, if I understood well. AFAIK the serials(VIN of the car), are stored only by the head unit, and you can clear that with the PIWIS, still you will need a sort of acces code, at least thats what I needed when I installed a PCM2.1 that had stored the previous configuration of the car that has been factory installed. hope this will helps.

Thanks guys!

i already found out with VIN the corect navi for my car, that was no problem. I understand, my mistake

So i can try to find one in the winter time on ebay because i also don´t drive with my carrera in the next 2-3 month.

If not i have also go to the dealer.

stealthTT:

Do you have piwis and done it by yourself, i do not have piwis and have to go to the dealer, a friend have the pst2 but it doesn´t work with my car.

For example

if i buy one on ebay, do you think i will get trouble at the dealer when my car is on the piwis, they see it´s for example not legal and i waste my money?? / because it´s not a secret that many units in german ebay aren´t legal. You explaned that the serials are stored in the pcm, if i understood right you mean also the serials of the dvd unit i will get are stored in the pcm, because both are conected. I think it´s better to buy a new one at the dealer? Whats your thinking?
