Sound doors make when closing

What 's up with the sound the doors on my '07 C4S make when they close ? Sounds like a pickup truck. My '01 Boxster had a more solid sound to it. Is it me or do they all sound like that ?

Same thing on my '05 C2S coupe. I think it has something to do with the windows dropping a few mm's to clear the seals before they move up to re-seat. I do find that if I close the doors a bit more gently, I don't get that >clunk<. I tend to overlook it, because the thing is so **** much fun to drive! It IS a sports car after all.

They cheapened many things when they went liquid cooled...go open and close the door of a 993 or ealier Porsche and see what you think.

If you are up to it, you can remove the inner door panel and line the inside of the outer door skin with Dynamat Extreme and put the door panel back on.

You will not believe the difference in the "thunk" sound and the reduction of outside noise from the door areas.

My 05 Carrera sounds just like that as well. Close the doors more gently and it'll sound better.

FWIW, My 83 911 slantnose sounds more solid with a decided "thunk" sound..very german! :huh:

There is enough access to easily do it with three horizontal pieces, one above the other.

Note that this is on my Boxster, but I believe it's similar enough (or the same exact door) as a 911.

Piecing it together to get full coverage is just fine. Cleaning the surface with denatured alcohol or similar solvent will insure you get excellent adhesion.

The access to the inside is different on 997/987 they use the same system as the Cayenne. You have to remove the trim, than you have to remove the inner part of the door ( panel with the door lock and handle assy, window, window regulator, etc. ) The door is made of two pieces, inner and outer part. Take a look in PET to have a idea.

Thanks for the suggestion and the picture ( always worth 1000 words ). When the weather improves, or I heat the garage - which ever comes first, I'll give it try. Having looked at the PET as RFM suggests, and POSES, it looks to be a little more of a challenge than I expected but do able none the less. At this point it's simply a matter of time and motivation. Maybe closing it more gently isn't such a bad idea after all.
