Porsche Boxster 987 Sound Systems

My personal take is to get the base radio and then not listen to it. Nothing form the factory is good enough to beat the beautiful music that the car itself makes especially with the top down. You will need to spend beaucoup bucks to replace the factory stuff with good after market.

Most "factory" systems will only go so far, and depending on what kind of music you listen to, what tires you have (and how worn they are), whether you drive with the top up or down, there's just a ton of things to over come for "good sound" in a car like this. I worked in the car audio industry for 10 years and my suggestion? Take it to a respectable, high end car audio place. If I were going to do anything to the audio system the best bang for the buck is more power and better speakers. Most in dash stereos only have a fraction of the power the speakers in your car can handle, in fact a speaker usually blows from too little power (playing at high volumes with little power causes distortion, thus blown speakers) than too much power. Be careful though as lots of amps and speakers means either blown alternators, drained batteries, or stolen cars! Good luck!!!

+1! And get the (spend the money on) Porsche Sport Exhaust (PSE).

I was upset at first that my car did not have the upgraded Audio, and had the very basic setup. My Audi S4 has a kick-*** audio system, so it was a big step down for listening to music.

However, after driving my RS60 (sport exhaust standard) with the top down, I found myself turning off the sound system as it interfered with the wonderful sounds my RS60 was producing!

One of the biggest things I notice, and miss, is the Bose system. I drive/borrow/steal an older boxster when I visit an in-law which has the upgraded Bose, and the difference is phenomenal between the premium sound package. It's a very small cabin, so just minor movement really can change the sound. The Bose system helps it fill the cabin much better.

I've been looking at the rear speaker kits and a subwoofer. Will still need a good amp, though.

I had the rear speakers installed, change the door speakers (Swiss Audio) and added a 4 Channel Kenwood Amplifier. The sound is now really good compared to the stock sound system. I'm using the standard CDR24 with two Stinger line convertors.

I'm agree that listening to the engine is as beautifull but because my wife like to drive around bitchy, I made the change.
