Insurance cost

I am planning to live and study in the USA (Santa Barbara) for a year (I currently live in Norway), and I have been looking at buying a 996 (probably a 1998 C2)while I am there. The only potential problem is insurance, I am 22 years old and not a US citizen, the car would probably only be used on weekends and not day to day, how much (ballpark figure) should I expect to pay in insurance? I can't get a quote from an insurer so I would love to know how much it costs.

Try some of the US insurance companies' web sites. You can enter your information and they should get back to you with a quote. For example, Geico at www.geico.com seems to do online rate quotes. I think there's some site that will get you multiple quotes from different companies, maybe somebody knows or has used it

Thnks for the tip, I thought you had to have an american social security number to get a quote, I will give it a shot

That seems about in line with the quote I got from Geico (which was about 5000$), that isn't too bad, in Norway I would have to pay almost double that amount, so it could have been a lot worse.

male 26, no wrecks, 3 vehicles, only the Porsche has full coverage, i pay 1200 a year for all 3 vehicles, i think the Porsche was 600 of it.

if you are a non-US citizen insuring for the first time, the cost is MUCH higher for the first year.

The commercial for Progressive Insurance that was on TV the other night says their web site lets you compare insurance quotes from a number of different insurance companies. Might be easier than getting multiple quotes

I have Geico, seemed to be the cheapest when shopping 100/300 policy with 1000 deductible on comp and collision, $872/yr. Drive under 9k a year
