I need some information regarding the preparation of the flywheel surface that would be mating with the new clutch.I have heard everything from leaving it alone to having it cut on a rotor cutting machine.Has anybody had any experience in this area? I intend to do soup to nuts with new bolts and release bearing.

I have had the dual mass flywheel in my 996TT refaced. This was done by a shop with experience in this area - they locked the two halves together (from memory there are some threads in the flywheel to 'jack' one half against the other). Then they 'clocked it' to ensure that the locking process had maintained the alignment of the two planes - then they milled / ground the surface. In doing so I ended up with a flat flywheel surface (slight taper that had been there was no longer) - from memory about 4 thou was removed. The clutch feels great.

Before doing this, I had a couple of experts confirm that the torrsional rubber was still ok....
