Hi Everyone,

Has anyone ever changed the starter on a 99 Boxster? I have done a 996 and wondering if the Boxster is the same set up. If it is, that means I have to tackle the job from the top and considering the boster is a mid engine....looks like I have to crawl on top of the car... Is that correct or is it accesible from the bottom? Is there a DIY write up somewhere?

I guess it's up to you to do the write up....

Here is what i have...I bought the manuals from Porsche Parts at Dealer Cost. The sponsor of this web site. $200 for all the 15 books.

Anyway here is what i have...You will have to do this from the top. So put the top in the service position, remove engine cover...

1)Get the radio code. Disconnect the battery.

2)Remove Air Guide between throttle body and air filter.Take out vent line from between intake distributor and oil seperator.

3)Loosen both hose clamps at intake distributor. Unscrew fastening screws for fuel pipe at intake distributor.

4)Loosen bracket for throttle body on the crank case. Swing intake distributor and throttle body upwards by approx 45 degrees and remove bracket on the throttle body.

5)Loosen cable at terminal 30 and terminal 50 at solenoid switch. Undo both hexagon head bolts on the starter and remove ground cable. Withdraw starter upwards from its bracket.

And take lots of pictures please....

The cdr24 doesn't have a radio code... that's a 986 thing. I believe the radio is enabled through the computer via MOST.

Please correct me if I'm wrong on that last part.

I pulled my starter off my 98 last night (65k miles).. it sounded nasty when it turned over and drained hard on the battery. The hoses do not pull apart easliy... if they pull apart at all. I loosened the throttle body and when I turned it up, only then was I able to get the air intake off. The lower starter bolt took the longest. I could not get a "snorkel" loose on the LH side, so I had to work around it.

I will be taking the starter to AutoZone to be tested. They can get a re-man for $130 plus the old starter.
