Headlight corner trim triangles

I am replacing the 2 corner trim triangles under the headlamps. I removed one today and ended up braking off several plastic clips on it. :oops:

Do I need to pop the headlights out to replace these?

I think it is easier that way and it only takes a few seconds to pop them out.

Thank you once again Loren, yeah I just mutilated one of them today trying to take it out. I ended up having to 'super glue' the pieces to put it back until my new ones arrive... I should've asked first, oh well...

Rubber cement and masking tape. . . . When the glue has dried remove the tape and it'll do the trick.

Super glue will run the risk of breaking the slot when removing to replace them.

Thanks Viola. Actually I used the super glue just to reattach the broken clips on the triangle itself, let them dry and then put it back. It's still pretty loose but it should hold until I get the new ones. Better than having a hole under the headlamp...

What's the best way to remove and re-install the light unit? I noticed after removing it one time, that there is a small bar that can be positioned "up" or "down" -- for a lack of better description. I think I may have installed it incorrectly because the lower portion doesn't meet up with the bumper correctly.

You need to access the plug on the inside of the trunk on the fender, use the tool that comes with the tool kit, and crank it out. It snaps out and then you can remove the whole assembly. Check your owners manual. Reverse the process and make sure the light snaps back in place when cranking the tool.

Hi.

I wonder if anybody could help please. The passenger side Headlight corner trim triangle on my 1998 Boxster had a very small crack in it and was full of water so I've bought a new one to replace it as I was worried about water ingres into the main headlight unit.

I've managed to get the main headlight unit out, not problem and have put it back in a few times without issue.

However, when I came to pop the old corner trim off, it was very stiff and actually in trying to get it off, a couple of the tabs (of the corner trim which needs to be replaced) have snapped off. This isn't too much of an issue as I'm replacing it.

However, when trying to get the new part snapped into place, i cannot see how this is possible as the two distinct parts of the unit that need to align correctly seem to be impossible to align.

There are three main clips.....and these locate over three corresponding clips in the main headlight unit.

Then there are two pins (one slightly larger than the other) and a sort of runner clip.

It seems to me that you either align with the clips (which would then make it nigh on impossible to align the runner and pins), or vice versa - with a similar effect.

If anybody knows the best/ correct way of snapping this part into place without breaking anything, I'd be extremely grateful if you could let me know as I'm stumped.
