2002 911 C2 Coupe

My brake lights and interior lights have stopped working...

Rear lights light up red with headlights on but don't switch on to the bright red for braking.

Also interior lighting will not come on in any configuration.

Any ideas?

I checked my fuses today and fuse C-3 was completely melted. The plastic was, it wasn't blown though... weird.

Check or change the brake light switch on the pedal to solve the brake light problem, take a look on the fuse if the AMPS are the same as it should, put a right one in and if the right fuse will blown than search the cause.

I just went through and made sure all of the fuses are the correct values, they are.

B4 was blown, engine fan? I physically pulled every fuse out and tested them, B4 was the only one blown.

B4 does not pop after it was replaced.

No interior lights/glovebox/etc. No brake lights (but they do illuminate with headlights).

All other systems operational.

You likely have two seperate problems.

Please do as RFM suggested - brake lights are not tied to the interior lights.

Interior lights (including the glove box) are driven from central locking/alarm system (and fused by C3).

If the fuse was melted then perhaps you have a melted wire too?

Is this a Cab? Is there a chance the control box under the left hand seat got wet?

Thanks for the replies everybody!

It's a coupe.

I'll check the brake switch on the pedal.

I'll start tracing wires from C3. The other systems on C3 (locking system, power mirrors, etc) all work flawlessly.

It's very unlikely that any of the interior got wet.

I'll try that right now.

It seems like one hell of a coincidence that brake, reverse and interior lights all malfunction at the same time.

Are there any fuse/relay locations other than drivers footwell?

Does a single control module power these systems together?

How is your ignition switch? If you wiggle the key do things change?

Perhaps we are overlooking the simple?

How old is your battery? Have you had the cells tested and load tested?

A going bad battery can also cause some strange things.

Hmm, I think I may have found a contributing factor...

I KNEW there had to be a common point SOMEWHERE.

I'm off to get some flux, these wires dont take too well to solder.

Once I get everything back together I'll come back with updates.

Hopefully nothing else was damaged by the short(s)

Welp, I spliced all the wires back together and reset everything by disconnecting the battery for half an hour...

Didn't fix anything.

I'm assuming that the short damaged some control unit somewhere. Does this sound feasible? If so, which ones should I check?

Thanks Loren

What am I looking for?

High resistance in wires? Melted wires?

Popped light bulbs?

I really don't know anymore.
