Lately my boxster has developed 2 things,

1. It has a small intermittent ticking noise, sounds like a valve. It does not do it all the time and it is very faint. Is some valve noise to be expected?

2. right after cleaning and oiling my K&N air filter, I noticed a rough spot at about 2400 rpms. I took the K&N out and replaced it with the OEM filter.

Think its the MAF? and is it easy to clean?

Thanks all

Your tick could be lots of things. Assuming it ticks in time with the motor and it is a lifter, it’s probably not hurting anything yet. Lifters rattling at cold starts are normal. It would be nice to if it ticks under heavy throttle orjust any old time, etc.

MAF’s are pretty east to clean. K&N filters are quite controversial. Great arguments on both sides. I stick with the stock. I seriously doubt I’d notice any performance difference.

Is it a tick or a tap, injectors can tick, nothing to worry about, lifters or tappets (uk) tap, sometimes oil drains out of them and it can take a while for them to fill up again particularly if its been standing a while. Try a good long run, then listen, as they are hydraulic there should be no noise when warm, having said that a little noise is acceptable.
