B) My car is driven 4 to 5 times per month (Also Clouds of smoke at start up) and when traveling at speeds less than 20kph

on turnig the steering a gonging sound is heard (like hitting a spring with hammer) the dealer tells me that as the car is so stiff and firm that at low speed the coil spring twists slightly and creates this noise. Has anyone else had this problem and if so whats the fix?? Thanks Malcolm

Hello Malcolm..... Yes, I've experienced that sound on my Mk II GT3, and on my old '99 C4 after I swapped the suspension to ROW M030 spec. It can happen with McPherson strut type front suspension as the action of steering twists the damper/strut inside the spring and against the strut top bearing. It can happen especially on lowered cars such as ours. To confirm, you might lift the front end and, if you can, twist the front springs on their perches (the springs should be unloaded now). Put it back on the ground and the sound may go away, change, or, maybe even not change at all. ;-]]

Hi, I have an '07 GT3 with PCCB, experienced the sound with last tires, dealer said it might be tires,

got new tires, no big deal, but noise is still there,

it is a grinding noise, and I thought wheel bearings.

Could it be same noise you experienced?

Sounds a little like grinding marbles/wheel bearings.

Dealer said at 7,500 miles nothing wrong with wheel bearings.

I could not duplicate noise.

Car now has about 10,300 miles on it.

Hey Craig thanks for the input will try it out

Thanks Malcolm

The sound in the front coil springs is quite common indeed.

Had it on the 996 Turbo and also occasionally on the 997 GT3.
