2004 Cayenne S Center Console Noises

Hello all!

I'm thrilled to have found this community.

I purchased an 04 Cayenne S w/72K miles a couple months ago and am loving it.

The reason for my post is I am hearing a lot of sounds coming from the center console, forward of the gear selector.

The car functions properly from my perspective and I have no complaints other than these noises are somewhat annoying.

The best way I can describe these noises would be mild thumping, tapping, and strangely, it sounds like something is being stretched or being pulled taught when this happens. Are there actuators and valves or hamsters inside the console working to keep this car running properly?

I don't believe it is related to the AC as it happens whether or not it is on.

Has anyone else experienced this phenomenon?

Should I do anything?

The service records indicate the transmission control module was replaced under warranty before 12K miles.

Probably the electro servomotor(s) which activate the flaps in the aircon system, a good part of Cayenne's have this issue. If it is too annoying, change them out. The flaps are always working AC on or off, you have to shut the climate control complete off to eleminate the noise.

Thanks for the quick response. This had gone away for some time and has now returned. This makes me wonder if there are updated parts for this (like the ignition coil problems) or will the dealer simply install the same "old" parts?

You will find that the hamsters take a rest from time to time but they always come back. You get used to it

I would check the drive shaft and centre brng.

mine does the same thing. kind of embarrassing too. driving a nice car like this, and it sounds like something is falling apart. But, I've learned to just turn the radio up

For what it's worth the Durametric software does show two error codes relating the air conditioner servo motor(s).

On occasion, the right side will blow cold air when the heat is designated. After a few minutes it magically coverts to heat. (Guess the servo finally moved the flap?)

Afraid of spending entire return check at Porsche dealer to fix this. Someone suggested, earlier in this thread, that it would be labor intensive to repair.

Wasn't left with much confidence that the problem would not come back after the repair either.

any further on this? I have the sounds too, more from behind the drivers side dash, then center. It's driving me mad.

I agree with possible Drive Shaft issue...just had mine replaced...all too common occurrence in Cayennes. Starts out as a mild "flutter" under your right console armrest then progresses to worsen to "wuddering". Occurs with acceleration under load.
