I am looking at a 1986 911sc for sale that by owner for 18k. It has 85000 miles, and is in great shape cosmetically. I would like to know if this is a good price for this year model, and if there are any mechanical issues I should know about with this model before I consider the purchase any further. What should I look for and be aware of mechanically? I am concerned with wether the vehicle will pass the emissions test required for registration in my state (CO). Please give me any guidance before I make the big purchase.

There is no such thing as an 86 SC; the SC years were 1978-1983, after that it was just a Carrera. As for price and condition it is so much in the unknown right now, with the economy you should be able to pick up a splendid example at a great price.

The auto forums (autotrader, etc.) can give you a good idea of what vehicles are going for now a days, check many different medias and you can form your own understanding of "worth"

Good luck
