No, you can lower 2-3 inches as opposed to dropping the motor to remove the intake manifold.

Has anybody done this?

Invicto, were you able to do it without removing the engine? My mechanic found a leak at the intake distributor rubber sleeves. Apparently they are loose and are leaking under load.

If the rubber sleeves are at fault you can remove them without lowering the engine. You just need to remove the throttle body mount.
