Hey all. This is my first post as Im 4 days into Porsche ownership. Picked up a mint 02 Boxster S with only 21K miles this week. I occasionally take trips out of state and am looking for a hood guard. I had one on my GTI and it did a great job protecting against rock chips. The only one I can find for the Boxster states that it fits the 1999 model, but not the 2002. Visually, the hoods look the same...is there a difference? Thanks in advance for the replies.

I personally would go for a custom clear bra! Protects your paint while maintaining the good looks of your car! Local detail shops most likely can do it for you.

I have an independent shop add a custom clear bra to all my cars. I always get the entire front end including hood, fenders, headlights, fog lights, mirrors and front bumper protected for less than than the dealer price of just doing the hood. Find a good installer and your car will look like new forever.

I just bought my 2003 Boxster S (14k miles and looks like brand new), and it came with a dealer-installed clear bra on the hood and front fenders, so I will be adding the bumper, headlight and foglight protection right away.

Thanks for all the replies. Good ideas, all :)

Does anyone know the answer the original question I posed? Is the bonnet on the 986 the same for all years up to the 987?

The front trunk hood is the same on all the 986 models. There is a difference in the bumpers depending on MY and S or not. So if you buying a full bra w/ bumper coverage, then no not all years are cross compatible and that is probably what they are referring to.

:)
