I hate to resurrect this topic but it is really giving me fits. Here is the history:

QUOTE (uabchris @ Aug 21 2008, 10:45 AM)

Well, its been a month now and I am still trying to pinpoint the source of my 00 Boxster not starting (only after adding fuel). I fuel up then have to depress the gas to the floor and then starts after about 5-10 seconds, runs like crap until the computer resets itself then I am good to go until the next trip to the gas station. I get an occasional P0446 (charcoal canister) code but all lines are clear. To troubleshoot the shutoff/purge valves I decided to fuel the car while running. As soon as I inserted the gas nozzle (which depressed the tab at the end of the fuel neck) the car started to run rough. As I put in a few gallons the car wanted to stall so I stopped and removed the nozzle...the idle returned to normal. When depressed, the tab at the fuel neck seems to operate 2 valves: The purge valve behind the RH headlight inside the fender, which I relpaced...no fix. There is also another valve next to the purge valve...could this be the problem? The other valve seems to be out of sight but close to the base of the neck on the fuel tank.

Sorry I,m a pain but my Boxster's getting old. Anyone have any ideas?

* The other valve next to the purge valve?

* Any valves, etc, at the base or on the filler neck?

* Any of the other air valves on the neck near the charcoal canister?

* Or ???

UPDATE:

I just replaced the tank pressure sensor and no luck. At this point I have replaced the pressure sensor and 1 of the 2 purge valves behind the RH fender. Any ideas? Do you think it is the the shutoff valve and where is it? There seem to be a few controls on the filler neck, also.

After more investigation, the problem seems to be directly related to whatever is operated off of the tab on the fuel filler neck, when I depress it with my finger (like inserting gas nozzle) the car starts to run rough and I also hear 2 valves actuating. When gassing up as I put in a few gallons the car wants to stall so I stopped and removed the nozzle...the idle returned to normal.

Thanks in advance!!!

Hey Chris , its been a while since we communicated,,,I've been away.

It's a bummer she isn't fixed with a new sensor, be sure to check the sensor connection.

"I also hear 2 valves actuating" I believe the other valve next to the purge valve is the shut off valve.

sounds like u've already replaced the operating purge valve,,,

there is also a vacuum control valve on the EVAP canister, pm'ed u back with my cell #.

good luck.
