I used the 996 spark plug changing notes and there are a few things

different. The shield is held in with a T10 male bolt and not a 6mm bolt.

The spark plug coils are held in with a T40 torx bolt and

not with a 5mm hex bolt. I did the driver's side

spark plugs and it took me three hours to do three spark plugs. The

real hard one is the center one. It was real hard to remove the coil

pack because of some steel stuff just close enough to the coil

pack bolt to make it tough. The breaker bar I had was to long

and I had to index the T40 bolt.

Let's hope I can do the passenger side faster.

Well it only took me one hour on the passenger side

but I only did two spark plugs. I could not get the T40

socket to squeeze in with the wrench in the

socket. The T40 socket fits by it self and a friend

of mine toold me to put a wrench on it. I did

not think of this when I was under the car. I

wanted to buy a hand spinner that fits on the socket.

I was about to cut the T40 socket smaller.

I did not take the mufflers off. The metal that is in the way comes down from the

top of the motor and runs to a bracket near the part where the headers

bolt on to. My guess is this metal is a motor support bracket.

Removing the mufflers would not help to get to this capacitor coil

bolt. The bolt is the fartest rear bolt on the passenger side. I will

buy a socket spinner and also wrench the torq socket.

That is the part. Part 18 lines up with the rear spark

plug on the passenger side. Part 17 lines up with

the middle spark plug on the driver's side. These parts are

so close to the capicitor coils that it makes it hard to get your hands

up in the space to work.

Take the 3 - 13 mm nut off the bracket and loosen the two 17 mm bolts ont he cat sleeves and the muffler tilt and come right out.

Try it next time - it will save you a lot of time and pain.

I still have this one spark plug to do so I can

still try this. The <3> 13mm bolts are very easy

to get to. I will report on my findings in a few weeks.

My next atempt is to replace the wire from the starter

to the alternator. Parts should arrive thursday or

friday from Susnset Imports. I have to remove the

throttle body and the alternator. One of the

parts is a new belt. The belt was less then $25.

HellO all: Can the coil packs be tested? Or do you just replace them? Thanks Hal

Measure resistance between Pin 1 and Pin 15.

Display: 0.3 to 0.7 Ω (at 20 °C)

Any other measurement means they are bad (or you have a poor connection).
