I have been taking my boxster to the dealership for a whining sound in the driver side every morning when I start my car. They told me it was possibly power steering leakage. The found no hole in the hose and then they said "we don't know what it could be" but the fluid goes low about every 3 months so I get it filled up. I do not drive it to high milage daily.

They would put the power steering fluid in it and then it happens again 3 months later. Now I am feeling the clutch pedal throb when I start the car--- once I get it going it stops making the whining sound and the clutch pedal stops throbbing. Any known fixes for this - and the dealership has been killing me with the fees to find nothing!!

2002 Boxster 2.5 / 5 speed/ US

Thanks!!!

In my case the seals in the steering rack are leaking, so I have to top up very few months. This has been going on for years, until I get around to replacing the rack. But only one time have I seen fluid on my garage floor. The fluid leaks into the boots, and I guess the fluid comes out of the boots when I'm driving.

Take a front tire off then remove the small clamp from the boot to see if thre is fluid inside the boot.

The power steering rack on my son's Grand Cherokee had a slight leak to it, as well. I bought a product called "Seal Lube", which a small amount is poured into the power steering fluid reserve. The product actually swells the rubber seals in the system and stops the leak. Oh yeah, it worked like a champ.

I found it on eBay, but you could probably buy it at almost any major auto parts store.

WOW! Thanks for the responses... I guess my next trick is to find someone with reasonable prices to do it since the dealership is killing me in fees.

HI All I took my boxster to the dealership and mentioned the possible issue you guys noted. They inspected it as such and found out the power steering pump and reservoir needs to be replaced as well as the check valve line.

I have an extended warranty on the thru Mercury. The issues is that the warranty will only cover the power steering pump and reservoir. They will not cover the check valve line because they stay they don't cover hoses or anything as such. The dealership told me to advsie them that is it not necessarly a line it is a metal piece - not sure why they [dealership] won't tell them but I need this part covered.

Has anyone had this part covered by their extended warranty if so how was it submitted.

Please help - thanks!! : :o
