I have a 2000 996 Cab 4. The front tires are Contsport2 and are 205 50 ZR 17. I have the opportunity to purchase Conti sport2 205 55 ZR 17's. Will this different size make a difference in the driving and handling?

I suggest you do a search here for the many tire related questions. It is hard to answer your question without knowing your rear tire size. You would be increasing the rolling diameter of your fronts going from a 50 to a 55 with both being a 205.

I wouldn't do it! The 55 series will have a higher side wall meaning less handling. Porsche actualy tunes the suspension based on a set of assumptions. So this very well takes it outside the assumptions.
