Hi, A while ago I posted that I had issue with my idiot lights coming on after a heavy rain. Some of you suggested that I change my battery to see if that fixes the issue. I have changed the battery and the lights still come on after a heavy rain.

I have a 1999 996 C4.

Here are the issues:

After heavy rain: Idiots come on ( PSM, battery, caution) , volt meter on dash jumps over 16, electronics on the car stops running. After driving for a little bit, everything returns to normal, volt meter comes back 13volts and electronics are fine. (The car starts and drives fine)

This morning, the car would not start, half a turn and "tic, tic, tic." The car needed to be jumped to get started. I am now at work hoping it does not rain...

So does anyone know if its the Ignition Switch or the Alternator?

It seems that the when it rains the alternator is not functioning properly and the car is running on battery? I dont know if that makes sense.....

Please if anyone can offer help.....

It does point to the alternator as the problem, are you missing any cowling covers on the spoiler that could be causing rain to flood the alternator? How many miles/age on the serpentine belt?

cowling covers? i dont know what those are.....can you give me a description?

Serpentine belt is that the same as the polyrib belt? That was changed at 60,000 miles.

Car has 74,000 miles on it.....
