USB and IPod Kit

I just got a nice hard bound brochure int he mail from Porsche on the new 997-2 (998?) cars, and one thing it mentions is that there is an available extended audio piece that sticks a USB Port, IPOD Jack, and AUX Port in your armrest of the car. You can apparently stick a USB Memory stick in it and have the head unit play off of that. This would be great. Has anyone seen this beast yet? Any thoughts on what it would take to make it work with a 997 which has factory nav?

The model year 2009 Carrera is still a 997. A 997 series 2.

Porsche released a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) titled "Music Player Interface" (dated June 6, 2008) which mates most popular music players (including iPod).

Part number is 997.044.901.77 -- US MSRP $394.98

But then our Contributing Members already knew that since they get access to the TSBs - including this one and it's 15 pages of factory install instructions. ;)

It's an FM modulator for the add on in a 997-1. Only controls volume. Waste of money, get a Dension!

I posted some info on the subject of fitting a Dension Gateway in my 987on the boxster section of the forum. The 997 and 987 use the same PCM so the install is essentially the same for both cars. Fitting takes about 1 hour and if you already have a CD changer , doesn't require a trip to the Porsche main agent. The dension allows you to play I pod or USB tracks directly controlled via the PCM. There is also an additional module you can buy that synchs with your bluetooth phone mimmicking the OEM phone system.

I have just taken delivery of an MoBridge unit that links into the 997 MOST fibre optic system. Check it out at www.mobridge-use.com. There are two models, ipod only and ipod and blue tooth. Cost was £300 in UK for ipod and £590 for ipod and bluetooth.

I haven't seen the new extended audio components, but I did have the Dension IceLinkGateway500 installed by my dealer. Works great and no complaints! Here's the link: http://www.dension.com/icelinkgateway500.php
