Thanks Loren......does that mean I will need the original VIN (for the turbo) that we removed when we entered my VIN (Cayenne S)?

By TT I mean Cayenne Turbo.

On Boxsters you can trick the DME and system into thinking it is a Carrera by programming the DME as a Carrera. Then the Carrera cluster can be programmed (while it is on a Boxster). When you are done programming the (Carrera) cluster you re-program the DME as a Boxster.

Sorry folks, this is all BS. Rule of thumb with a warranty is that the car has to fulfil certain guidelines. One of those guidelines is that the car must be in 100% condition. IE, original as it was manufactured. This means that even if the Porsche dealer sold you the new part, the warranty on the vehicle will be affected as the cluster is not originally supposed to be in the car, it was not designed to operate with that model. One has to bear in mind the diffecrnt voltages and apage draws on an lcd screen as opposed to the normal screen. There is also the warning configuration and gauge calibration to be taken into account. None of this wil be acurate without changing the sensors aswell...The dealer however will only offer a spare part warranty on the cluster if it is purchsed from them but to order it, you need to provide them with a vin number and proof of ownership. again if the cluster is not fitted to the intended vehicle, they do not have to honor the spare part warranty. If you want to do it right and keep the warranty.... buy a turbo vehicle...

Loren-

please excuse my ignorance but what is a TT program??

I hate to say this but what may need to be done is to put the cluster in a TT program the options like you want - then put it in your car.

When we put a Carrera cluster in a Boxster we have to program the Boxster as a Carrera - make all the option changes then program back to Boxster. When i have done this it usually takes about 1 hour do the conversion.

Hi Mark,

Can you please explain what is the "Bar" indication of the turbo cluster showing now?

Thanks

NOTHING....its is not functioning but the least of my problems.....cant access any on board computer programming until the air suspension warning is cleared

Sucks... and this is happening because you don't have the air suspension option on your car.

Hope you resolve this problem soon.

Loren- I know this sounds somewhat absurd but....is there any way a far less sophisticated hand held read/reset tool would be capable of clearing the air suspension warning? I am just about to give up here in so much as I would hate to go back to the led screen on the regular cayenne s - it sure has been a tease seeing that full color Porsche splash screen and colorful speedo etc- all no good if I can't get anything past the air suspension error! THANKS!

No, not that I am aware of.

As I said before it is a programming option - that needs to be turned off. Try a local independent shop to see if they want to give this a try. They could likely sell more if they did.

Loren-

A local shop with a device like a PIWIS ? Would that be any local repair shop that deals with Porsches? Will I be better off with the turbo cluster IN or OUT of my car for attempting to turn off the programming option? THANKS!

UPDATE-

Cayenne is at a hi-po Porsche shop with a very good reputation. ( some seriously badass cars too!) So far no luck they have emailed some folks in the UK who they corrospond with to so see if there is any more insight. Seems like this turbo cluster swap may only work if you either HAVE the adjustable air suspension or you turn off that option before removing from the turbo vehicle, even at that I suspect the cluster may still look for the air option.....more tomorrow.

An Air equipped car is a totally different animal from a sprung car, may not be possible.

Am I understanding this correct in that ALL successful swaps of turbo clusters into CS models have transitioned into Cayenne S models ALL with air suspension option>?

Loren, if you have Cayenne S with air suspention will the Turbo cluster definetaly work?

Except the "Bar" indication i guess.

Thank you.

I do not know - the only way I know to be sure is to program the TT cluster without air-sus. (if that is possible) and put it in a Cayenne S.

I know you can reprogram a Carrera or 996TT cluster to work in a Boxster.

It is possible to order a Cayenne ( S ) air suspension with what you call Turbo cluster, in fact it's called Premium cluster, as an option. All Turbo's have air suspension here, i never have seen a Cayenne ( S ) with steel suspension with this type of cluster. Anyway it's a matter of programming, do what Loren suggest.

UPDATE - FINAL (I hope)

I took the Cayenne S to the good people at STAHL MOTORSPORTS here in town. They were highly recommended and I can see why. Many nice Porsches there. Initially there was not much luck reprogramming my new cluster. Upon contacting some other Porsche techs in the UK, Stahl uploaded my CS programming info and the techs in the UK processed that and sent a new program to Stahl which they transfered to my CS/new cluster. BINGO error message removed for Air Suspension- ALSO error for TPS GONE as well. Finally- I have seen in previous posts a problem with graphics on the comfort screen- NO such problem with my CS- all lined up properly. All functions of the on-board computer work as previously

(locks, lights, clock etc) ALSO the same graphics from the radio AND the Navi still appear on the new cluster screen but alas in full color. Speedo working as well along with trip odometer and transmission indicator.

In summation- the mileage odometer still retains the mileage on the actual cluster ( This can be fixed) AND the BAR guage is NON functional. Pix slightly blurry from my phone PM for better pix if you like.

Thanks to all who have watched and posted info here especially Loren. I hope my experience helps others- I welcome any PM's to enthusiasts attempting same project. THANKS!!

I am very curious what your total all-in cost was to get to this point. I would love to hook my 05 up and based on your experience, I suspect I would go direct to a hypo porsche shop that has done a previous conversion.

Hi Mark;

I was so much interested to follow up your experience of installing the Turbo cluster into the S.

Actually, I do have a full option 2008 Cayenne S and was interested to install the Turbo cluster in it but Porsche dealer in Yemen (where I live) refused to do that and claimed that it will never work since the software is completly different. What you have done proves that they are wrong.

So what's your suggestions for me please?

I bet Loren is better equipped to handle this question than I am since my experience was with a 2004 and yours is a 2008. I did eventually get the turbo cluster working perfectly in my 2004 Cayenne S with the exception of the bar guage which I never expected to function for obvious reasons. Back to the issue of cost- I believe I scored a great bargain when I purchased the cluster itself for $400. I then paid my local Porsche dealer- Braman Porsche in West Palm Beach for one hour of labor @ $150 for the first attempt to program it with the PIWIS computer - the techs are rather nice there but the service manager and advisors leave much to be desired......conversely I found a TERIFFIC shop locally called Stahl Motorsports who eventually solved the reprogrammimg problem- I had to pay for 4 hours of time since they researched the programming and had to spend some time emailing and downloading and uploading programming info with some UK colleagues of Stahls. They did tell me that if they ever had to do the cluster programming again the time would only be an hour or two since I have already paid for all the "groundbreaking" lol All in all- I LOVE the turbo cluster, if you are into small details like I am it makes a HUGE difference.

The difference in clusters is: <2005 = gateway build in cluster 2005> gateway apart, i.o.w. a 2003 cluster don't work in a 2006 and vise versa.

The company that corrected the error codes for this upgrade "Stahl Motorsports" out of W Palm Beach mentioned that they used the "Autologic" system...website http://www.autologic-diagnostics.com/pages/homeproducts and that any shop with this system could do the same. Stahl also mentioned that they would be glad to walk a shop through the process (maybe a small fee) so that they could do the upgrade. I am considering it in ATL at this time now and I called Autologic to find a shop with their system. Very nice and helpful people.
