Anyone having trouble finding 15 50? I've looked for it in 3 different shops yesterday and came up with nothing. Anyone heard of anything on this oil?

Are you going to use a 15W50 in your 986? That is not recommended. If you want to use a 50 weight oil, the only Porsche approved one is Mobil One 5W50.

okay, i was fairly certain 1999porsche911 posted a 15w 50 oil for moderate climates is all. I have used this oil for the past year and have been happy with the results, although I'm planning on switching over to 5w50 soon for winter. Was trying to pick up a few bottles of the 15 50 because I already had 5 or 6 of them and wanted a complete oil fill stash for this coming spring/summer. Does this strategy make sense? I'm in Maryland which gets hot in summer and cold in winter, just not NE style cold:)

Bmohr, you are a contributing member, so you have access to our TSB's. In there you will find the list of porsche approved oils for brand and viscosity. Porsce changed thier recommendations regarding the 15W50 a few years ago.

I have seen the "new" regular 15-50 in Walmart - the first picture. Have not looked for it at auto parts places because I started to use the 15W-50 EP (gold cap) when the original 15W-50 (red cap) was discontinued.

Thanks toolpants. Yes, the gold cap is the one I've been using. Can't find it anywhere. Thanks for the heads up White987s, i know about the approved oil lists, just had to pick a side of the oil war and 1999porsche911 spelled things out well and I took his oil advice on using the 15w 50 is all. Thanks again.

Once we finished my 3.6 swap into my 986S three weeks ago, I ran 0w40 in it for about 1000 miles... but this weekend I developed what sounded like a valve tick... so this morning I put 15w50 mobil 1 in it... and the tick is gone ... I usally run 15w50 for the track, but I was hoping the 0w40 was going to help clean out my new engine as it was originally in a burner
