Here's a strange one... My car is at the dealer for the 30K mile service, but they haven't found what's going on with this yet

I was out of town for the past month, so my car sat in the garage in its normal spot. Before I left, the dash oil level indicator was almost down to the bottom mark (even after sitting for a few days). When I got back, the oil level indicator was in the middle!

It would be great if my Boxster was spontaneously producing oil (finally a Porsche that pays you to own it!), but I don't think that's the case. Has anyone seen this happen before, and if so, what was the cause? The car has been at the dealer since Tuesday (lots of other nits besides the 30K service), but it should be ready Friday. My service advisor thought it might be a calibration problem on the oil display, but it seems unlikely from just sitting for several weeks.

I also complained about excessive smoke, even after the car is warmed up. They couldn't find anything wrong, but went ahead and replaced the oil separator anyway. Could the two be related (gas and oil mixing)? Anything else they should have considered that would cause the oil level to rise?

Mine does that too . When the engine has been running, the oil level drops. However, when I start the car in the morning, the oil level is back up again. The difference in oil level is probably about 2 bars.

Checked during 30K service and no problems found at the dealer.

Service advisor said since the car had been sitting for about 4 weeks without being driven, the battery might not have been putting out full power, hence erroneous reading on the oil gauge. No indication of other fluids in the oil when they changed it, so the battery explanation sounds as good as any. With all the electronics, I guess some items are more susceptible to voltages that fall below a threshold and produce suspect results.

Would be curious over time to see if others have similar experiences as all our cars age
