Hi,

I am interested in adding the porsche cd changer that mounts in the front trunk. Is a visit to the dealer required? Can I buy one on ebay and install it myself? Is any reprogramming of the radio required or and special cables needed. Has anyone done the install on their own. Any simple mp3 plug in options I should consider?

The only jazz station in my area has changed format so the fm radio is almost useless to me (except for NPR & the tappet brothers!) & one cd is not enough.

It is a 2005 Boxster with standard cd radio...the car itself is fantastico!

Thanks,

Kevin

You might want to take a look at the Dension Gateway 500, and play MP3s through your ipod or a usb stick.

The CD changer requires the MOST optical waveguide loop to be activated on the head unit. If the car does not currently have a CD changer or other MOST loop device fitted (such as navigation or Bose amplifier) then the MOST loop will probably need activating by your local OPC. If the car already has a MOST device , then it may not need coding to allow the CD changer to be added. Be aware that there are different models of CD changer available , so try and match the Cd changer to your existing head unit by using the on line parts catalogue as a cross reference, based on chassis number and model year of manufacture.

I just got a 2005 987 with the CR-24(?) single CD. The CD player and the seats are my only complaints so far. I was looking at changers through the dealer and they said that the one they had that fit would only play CD's.

Are the options really so limited? I looked at the Dension Gateway 500 and it does not seem to be compatible.
