996 TT Oil Change

Gonna change the oil in my 02 996 turbo, I had heard that it is a good idea to also drain the turbos??

I have located the oil filter and the engine oil plug, but I still cannot find the oil tank drain plug, can someone describe where this is located?

Also the turbos drain plugs I have found them, but!! how are the turbos fed oil? is it via the same system the engine is on or do I need to fill the oil

for the turbos in a seperate filler, I am assuming they are fed via the engine oil but I want to be sure before draining them?

Most dealers don't change the oil in the turbos. Some DIY'er do and some don't.

If you change the oil in the turbos plan on an additional 1 hour just for them to cool down enough to touch.

Yes, it is engine oil fed through pipes.

Thanks for the info, I also called the dealer to ask about draining the turbos, they said not to mess with them, that you are going to have nothing but problems! they did not specify exactly why, but warned me that it was not needed. I am left wondering what problems I would encounter?

I have no idea what they mean by you will ljust have trouble...I really think it boils down to the fact they have a flat rate for an oild change and draining the turbos adds time to the oil change that they'd have to eat if they advertise their oil changes for $XXX.

There is a Do it Yourself instruction posted in the DIY section for 996 Turbos. It is very informative and detailed with pictures to locate everything. Changing the turbo oil is simple and don't forget to get the necessary crush washers for the turbos, engine drain and oil tank drain. Whole job took less than an hour.

I always drain from all 4 points. I also change my oil every 3000km.
