When I start my 2003 Boxster S, the key does not automatically "spring" back to the acc position. Electronics (AC, mainly) will not work unless I manually turn the key a small amount counter-clock wise. Any suggestions?

Sounds like you need a new ignition switch.

Thanks! A little research after your input and yes, that appears to be the problem. Ordered and found instructions on the internet!!

I too had a similiar problem with my 1998 Boxster 2.5 from Calif. I found that the key had some play when I turned it ... After a couple of weeks my wipers stopped working, headlights were dim and blower fan would not function anymore. Fuses and everything were ok. I replaced the ignition switch with the Audi equivilent part ... and followed the instructions here for the ignition switch replacement .... fixed everything ... even my spolier retraction problem... The ignition switch was around 55 Canadian dollars at my local dealer.. The switch is a poor design and from what I have heard ... and there have been updates for the porsche replacement .....which are a little more work than just replacing the crappy switch. PS if you follow the DIY ignition switch replacement take the drivers seat out to work on the job ... I mashed my head against the cluch more than I would have Liked ...

cheers

Jason:

Did you ever figure out the connection between the ignition switch and the spoiler retraction?

Regards, Maurice.
