Hi,

Can someone tell me where the coil packs are located? When it rains here in FL, I get errors on my dash (idiot lights flash on). I want to see if my coil packs are cracked.

Thanks,

I will be changing my spark plugs this week as routine maintenance. Am I correct in assuming that my coil packs are OK if I am getting no CEL and there are no cracks? I am currently at 56,500 miles. How long should they last or do they usually last? Anything else I should consider while in the area?

With a coil pack misfire you will get a CEL. You can then connect a OBDII reader and find out which cylinder is misfiring.

When I had a bad coilpack, my 01 C2 flashed the CEL almost everytime it rained or somehow got wet up through the wheel well. It rains in little bit Oregon so it was easy to make the CEL come on and see what was happening with the OBDII reader. The trick in my situation was that sometimes the misfire would show up on more than the 1 cylinder. I narrowed it down to 2 possible cylinders, but then it was pretty easy to figure out when I removed the coilpack that had been cracked. It showed small cracks in a few places. $60 for a new one and it was fixed.

I recently changed out all of my coils at 47K miles. 2 of them had serious cracks and I decided to do all of them while down there because the whole process was a huge PITA and I didn't want to do it again.
