I recently had my seat out to install an aftermarket seat. I did not have the key in the ignition during the removal/installation but I must have plugged the connector in the wrong way because my airbag light is on now.

1) Does this mean my airbag is not working?

2) Does anyone know which way the connector goes in? Since the connector is square, it seems to have 4 possible orientations. I must have chose poorly.

3) Will I need to disconnect the battery to get the airbag light off when I do finally get the connector right?

Thanks,

Jake

On a Boxster the connector will only go back together one way, so I can't help you on that. Your air bags work, but the system has detected a fault. The only way I know to turn off an air bag light is with the PST2, disconnecting the battery will not do it.

Thanks ToolPants. Yeah...its a weird connector. I just wanted to make sure the airbag is still working because I have an Open Road Race this weekend (not that the airbag would do much good with a 5 point harness, but you never know).

The vehicle measures the air bag resistance. When it is out of range, then it issues a fault, disabling that air bag until the fault is corrected and the fault code is cleared with the PST2. The fault code indicates which air bag is out-of-range. The fault code is obtained using the PST2.

The air bag fault does NOT clear itself. It requires the PST2.

The problem is likely caused by a poor connection, such as a connector not properly mated.
