2001 996 C2 3.4

I am running 18"x 8" and 18" x 10" for the street, looking for a set of track wheels, Are 17" wheels better for the track than 18" wheels? Why? What size is recomended for the front to compensate for the understeer?

Any help here would be great.

Thanks:

James

Hi there, i guess not that many people track cars using stock C2s.

Anyway, i just wanted to share my experience last weekend, i took the car to Zhuhai International Racetrack for the 1st time. the car is 2001 996 C2 3.4L Cabriolet, stock engine, on H&R coilovers, running 19" rims and 235/35 and 285/30 MIchelin sports. the track itself takes around 2" to complete, website www.zic.com.cn

1) the car is noticeably slower, clumsier and heavier than my boxster-S 987. the body roll ( i think due to car being Cab) was absolutely horribble, even the H&R coilovers cant save it.

2) was running -1.5" and -1" cambber at the start, neutral toe, and tire pressures front 32PSI, rear 34 PSI. the car was understeering into the corner and midcorner and didnt felt too grippy at all. in the PM i greatly reduced to Front 26 PSI and rear 28 PSI, the handling improved considerably (along with tire wear ..!!)

3) on your questions, i think 18' would be the best copromise in terms of acceleration handling etc, and way better than my 19"s. 17"s would be acceptable if you are running hard suspension setup but if its just stock or springs-only, the body roll will be horrible. reduction of tire pressure in terms of Back/front ratio, should aid the understeer problem. oversteer isnt that much of a problem if u are tracking with PSM....

cheers
