2004 Porsche Cayenne Turbo. CEL was on steady, went off after filled up and put gas cap on. Could this be related, do I have a faulty oxygen sensor, or what other possibilities? Drives great, 80000 km. Thanks in advance for any input.

P2187 Oxygen Sensing Adaptation, Idle Range, Bank 1 (RKAT1) - Above Limit

Possible fault cause

- Incorrect main charge signal

- Intake air system leaking

- Fuel pressure too low

- Volume supply of fuel pump too low

- Mechanical fault in injection valves

- PCV valve leaks

- Cap of oil filler neck leaking

- Leaks in exhaust system

- EVAP canister purge valve mechanically faulty (hangs open)

- EVAP canister purge valve output stage faults

Chances are it was the gas cap.

Don't worry about unless it comes back on. Then check the other possible causes.

So Targa 81 is your CEL behaving? I have an 04 CT also and my light just came on. I've checked caps on oil and gas and added fuel but the light stays on. Loren, how can I tell if it's a p2187 code?

Any generic fault code reader should tell you the fault code(s).

Yes, it's still gone after several long trips. I had checked the code with my generic OBD scanner which was able to speak Porsche. It allowed me to clear the code which had been recorded although the CEL had gone off after replacing the gas cap.

Just got the same code (P2187) four days ago. Found oil filler cap (very) loose. I must have not tightened it enough when I added oil last week. Tightened the cap and the light went out the next day.

Codes came back, 2187 and 2189. I took car in where they diagnosed purge valve problem. part was cheap but diagnosis was not. Right before repair I noticed after filling up vehicle was hard to start so in hindsight I might have figured this out myself although I still think I would have had somebody else do the work.

I am getting P2189 fault code after about 75 miles between resetting the fault code. My car is a 2007 2.7L Cayman. This all started after adding a 987 Motorsport AOS. Everything seems to be connected, caps on tight. Does anyone have any thoughts?

I should also add that I have had the CEL come on after filling up with gas. In fact, it happened a few times on my last vehicle (Acura TL) and always after using the same gas station. I suspect bad gas was the cause (the gas station not me) and I switched stations. The light went off after burning a tank of the better stuff and it didnt happen again. My 2006 TT started this not long after my last fill up. The car starts and runs well so I am leaving it until after my next fill up before taking action. Unless somebody here tells me not to. I have a Durametric on order.

It's safe to operate the vehicle unless the check engine light is flashing.

I am new here too. This is my first post! I'd like to know where you get the info above?

Thanks.

'99 996 changed coolant tank, thanks to the diy's and it went well. I took it for a drive, check engine light is on continuous. Could this be due to not properly bleeding the tank, or a sensor error? Not sure if I bumped one while removing the tank. Any suggestions?

CEL is not usually related to coolant but emissions.

You need to read the fault codes.
