2002 Nav 996tt ipod connection?

Hello all. I have been searching the forums for a definitive solution to ipod connection issues for my 2002 996 turbo with PCM1 Navigation unit. I have a CD changer that I am willing to unplug if I can hook up an ipod. I hear few solution (europe only) but nothing definitive for U.S. cars or parts that are available in the U.S. I am willing to try a little wire splicing but nothing major. I have tried cassett adaptors and FM modulator with out much clarity. Any suggestions? Thank you!

Thank you for the info. I thought the Solisto product was only available in Europe but I'm trying to get them here in the U.S. If I can, I'll post where and how. My extensive research on this matter has lead me to the concusion that this is the only solution to the PCM1 ipod issue. If anyone else has a different solution, PLEASE let us know. There's a lot of us who is looking. Thank you!

For anyone in the U.S. looking for this unit, I am in the act of getting a unit from Europe sent out and installed to evaluate. If things function as they are suppose to, I'll let everyone know.

Thanks for the reply. But the systems for PCM1 nav from 1999 to 2002 seem to use a different system that is not compatible with ipod connectors for PCM2 nav of 2003 to 2005. The only ipod connector system that works with the PCM1 is the Solisto from Europe. I will let you know as soon as I test it for myself. Thanks for the input!

It is actually Dension Gateway 500. With the current firmware it is really nice. So far it has been very stable. It displays song and artist.

Update. I purchased two Solisto units from Europe and installed it in less than half an hour in my 2002 996 turbo with PCM1 Nav. It works great! There are few things you need to do with your playlist on the ipod and you do not get song title or artist info on your nav screen but it works just like a CD changer. I love it! Sound quality is great too. If interested, I have one for sale.

Yes, you need to unplug your CD changer. There are two wire harnesses behind the radio unit that are for the CD changer. You unplug them and replace them with the harness from Solisto. The Solisto unit has two inputs, one for direct ipod plug in and another for AUX input with stereo headphone jack. I will take some pictures of the unit and post them in the next few days.

I too recently purchased and installed the Solisto Extra and it works like a charm in my 2002TT with the PCM1 head unit. It even charges my iPhone 4 when plugged in. My 996 did not come with a CD player so this was a no-brainer for me and I'm very happy with the sound quality. In fact, it actually makes my Bose system sound acceptable!
