Hi all...I have a problem here. The remote has suddenly stopped working on my '99 Boxster S and the lever that opens the trunk doesn't work (the wire is attached at the lever end, but is quite loose). I need to get the trunk open; some important documents are in there.

I'd be grateful for any advice, if possible.

Thanks again, Loren. Maybe I should have been more specific. It's the rear trunk (what I normally call the boot). All I can find is a vague reference to there being an emergency release behind the heat shield. The lever by the driver's seat just flaps as if it wasn't connected to anything. The front one works fine.

The cable is behind the left rear tail light.

You will likely have to reach behind the left rear wheel well liner to find it or near the tail light from under the car.

Hello, I have same problem but the rear trunk is full of cloth packed into, and it wont open even solonoid works. Where can I find the emergency cable for rear lid? Mine is a 2001 986 Boxster. Battery is good! Help me please... thank you very much

Thank you, Loren... yes, I did followed you... did removed three screws on the bottom lips, the left rear wheel well liner, Still tight fitted, still couldn't get to the access of pull cable. Several months ago I did front end cover removed in order to install wire mesh on both air ducts, it was easy to follow thru. But rear clip/fender well liner... Is there any more screws/bolts that needed to be removed so I can get into liner...? Heat shields are also in the way... Looks like three layers are waiting there for me to struggle with?

Sometime you have to take a hook and hunt for the cable.

Look around that area with a flashlight - someone may have moved it. But as short as that cable is it can't go far - it should still be in the same left rear tail light/bumper general area.

I agree with Opposite Lock, there is not alot of info about the rear boot / trunk on this site. I have a 2000 Boxster and thank god the manual release works but the push botton on the key wont open the rear lid. I can hear the motor trying at the rear latch but it wont flip open. I enjoyed that part of the car very handy to throw ya crap in so you have nothing inside to roll around when your driving the beast.

Funny thing is I got the fuel filler fixed at the last service. The guy wouldnt have done it I dont think without the printed picture DIY guide I got off here. Problem there was the plastic pin looking closer was not sliding to lock the fuel filler cap. Again you could hear the motor trying to work but the plastic pin had snapped. 2 hour job mind you :D

If anyone has some idea about the rear boot issue I now have it would be much appreciated.

The cable between the electric motor and the lock is probably broken, open the rear trunk, remove the rear part of the trim and take a look.

I gave up on getting this done at the Indy who services my car and put me onto the dealer. The dealer said there were no cars with a 2 buttom key with a boot release . . typical and went on about replacement of the entire cable and labour involved. So I ended up trying a few bicycle shops to fix the broken cable coz it really does look like a bicylce brake cable. To see it just remove the black plastic cover in the rear centre of the boot. It's surprising to see there are actually 2 independant cables to release the boot, one on an electronic servo, the other the manual release from the drivers position.

After alot of running around I gave up on bike shops doing the repair and purchased a cable lock for 2 bucks from the local hardware store. My work is pretty primative but I can now remotely open the boot again. If anyone wants a pic to help them out let me know and I will post my first DIY on here LOL oh and yeah I'm a big fan of the remote boot release : D
