Help and info please. Took 2005 Carrera 997 to a just opened, NEW, Porsche dealership for a Minor Maintenance that included an oil and filter change. Everything seemed OK with the service and I drove vehicle home 15 miles and parked it. Next day prior to starting the car I checked the oil level indicator and it appeared over filled. Me garage is very level and the indicator measurement has never been over the maximum mark. I checked the invoice from the dealer and it shows 10 quarts of oil added. Normally the amount added on the invoice from other dealers is 9 quarts; the Porsche specifications state 8.7. I called the dealer and they said bring the car back and they will fix the problem. In the Porsche Owners Manual it states in bold print NEVER ADD MORE OIL THAN REQUIRED TO REACH THE MAX MARK. My question is can I drive the car back to the dealership without damaging the engine or has the damage already been done. Thanks in advance for any input.

Doubtful that you did any damage driving for 15 miles.

If it were me, I wouldn't add to the possibility. I believe you can just remove the oil filter cannister and that will drain off a less than a quart. Do it twice and then refill to the appropriate level I would think would solve your problem. Perhaps someone else here can verify this procedure with more certainty.

The other approach would be that since it's the dealer's mistake (and one that is so basic that it is inexcusable), the dealer should provide you with a flatbed tow to the dealership so that they can rectify their "oversight". Only use this approach if you still trust this dealer with your car.

Regards, Maurice.

One quart you should be OK, particularly if it's not smoking. Concern is the MAF sensor being contaminated. Check PCA Teck Talk. Nine quarts should have been the max.

Everyone, thanks for the input. I checked with PCA Tech and there was a situation exactly like mine, complete with the 10 quart overfill by a dealer. My car goes back to the dealer tomorrow AM to have oil drained and level corrected. If they do not offer, I'll also insist that this situation is officially documented for future possible warranty problems associated with their mistake. From everything that I've read, I doubt that there will be any long term problems.

Dealer solved overfill problem today. Records verify problem for future reference, if necessary. Thanks again.
