I want to drop the crankcase oil pan on my car. Are there any issues or hints that I need to know. What is the best way to remove the old sealant, and are there after market sealants I can use in place of the Porsche sealant?

thanks in advance ....

Straight forward job, I use a razor blade to clean the area and then wash it off with brake clean. Any high temp sensor safe silicon should do the trick.

I used Loctite 574. Much better than any RTV silicone I ever used.

I watched a dealership mechanic replace one on a Boxster because the owner hit something and cracked the pan. Removed the bolts and pried it off. I think you know there is no gasket. He used a razor blade and cleaner to prep the surface.

He used whatever Porsche sells, which looked like a tube of silicon to me. He said they use to use the same stuff to seal windshield leaks.
